Protect the Privilege of Freedom

Bondage replaces freedom in a free nation because of desensitized citizens who will compromise their rights by forfeiting them one right at a time through deception because of ignorance. All the while, many of these same citizens are seemingly content with the rights they’re allowed to keep. Until they awaken one day to realize they have no rights left, and the rest of their life will be lived in bondage. This scenario has occurred in many nations of the world throughout history. 

“The freedom we have, if not maintained, will not remain, and if lost because we failed to pay the cost, we’ll realize too late, we’ve created our own fate!”

After hearing the statement above more than once, it may become cliché, and we won’t grasp the full impact. So I’ve decided to expound on it, hoping that the reader will understand the full impact.

The rare privilege that you and I have, to live and do as we desire within the confines of the law, is something that much of the world can only dream about.

It is called freedom!

If this privilege is not appreciated and taken care of properly, it could be removed and replaced with bondage (life without freedom), where your right to live as you please within the confines of the law would no longer exist. Then you would realize the fate of “too late” that many former free nations throughout history have sadly experienced.

How do we keep “too late” from happening?

Benjamin Franklin, one of our great founding fathers, gave us the answer in one simple but profound statement.

A nation of well-informed men, who have been taught to know and prize the rights that God has given them, cannot be enslaved. It’s in the region of ignorance that tyranny (unlawful rule)begins.

We can’t prize or protect our rights if we don’t know them, and if we don’t know, prize and protect them, we will, through ignorance and irresponsibility, forfeit them.

There are three key words in the previous statement. They are -  know, prize, and protect.

Know is to have knowledge. 

Prize is to value.

Protect is to be responsible.

Our accurate history defines our rights and reveals our responsibility. It’s knowledge of our rights and action concerning our responsibility that determines the quality of our freedom. When our true history is not known, our rights are redefined, and our irresponsibility is revealed, the quality of our freedom deteriorates, and the America we once knew begins to fade and gradually disappear.

Our true history reveals the consequences of good and bad choices; it can give or withhold direction, correction, and protection, depending on our knowledge or ignorance of it.  When our history is ignored, forgotten, or revised (therefore never known), we lose our direction, don’t know what is correct, and are open to deception, therefore forfeiting our protection. Since a nation’s future is an extension of its past, without knowledge of our past, our wisdom for the future disappears.

Most people, Christians included, don’t have the slightest idea of who we once were; all they know is they don’t like who we’ve become and feel hopeless and helpless to change it.

When it comes to accurate knowledge of our rich Christian heritage, even most Christians are poverty-stricken and, therefore, too paralyzed to respond to issues that are stealing our God-given rights. We have an identity crisis because of historical amnesia, and we have settled for a dysfunctional lifestyle, as our national debt increases because our national morals have decreased.

For America to regain its identity, rights, and direction that made it great, it must restore its accurate history that contains the wisdom of how it was built and maintained until the last century. If this happens, America’s God-ordained destiny will be restored.
