The Value of Patriotism

Do you know what is lethal, deadly & fatal to Marxism, Humanism, Secularism, Socialism & Communism? The answer is Patriotism. Do you know what is lethal, deadly, & fatal to Patriotism? Historical Ignorance. Historical amnesia is a free pass for all the “isms” to operate without resistance.

Webster’s definition of patriotism is:

The love of one’s country; the passion that aims to serve one’s country, either in defending it from invasions, or protecting its rights and maintaining its laws and institutions of vigor and purity. Patriotism is the characteristic of a good citizen. It’s the noblest passion that animates (makes alive) a man or woman in the character of a citizen.

Defending our country from invasion has been the responsibility of the military. This responsibility has been fulfilled by brave men and women of the military throughout our history. To them we owe a great debt that can never be repaid, but as a nation, we should always be responsible for taking care of them when they return home. Any time a person is around an active-duty or former member of the military, they should count it an honor to express their appreciation.

The rest of the definition of patriotism is the responsibility of every citizen; the maintenance of our rights and laws requires accurate knowledge of them to maintain the freedom we all enjoy, but often take for granted.

Benjamin Franklin gave us a warning on the importance of keeping or the danger of losing our rights in his statement:

A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights that God has given them cannot be enslaved, but it’s in the region of ignorance that tyranny (unlawful rule) begins.

What Benjamin Franklin is revealing in his statement is very clear. If we don’t know our rights, we can’t prize them, and if we don’t prize them, we can’t protect them, and if we don’t protect them, we will lose our freedom. Each right is a portion of our freedom.

Our institutions of vigor are the military, police, firefighters, and first responders.

These institutions are vital to our blessed way of life, and should be maintained, respected, and appreciated by every citizen. Our institutions of purity are our homes, schools, and churches. They were the foundation of our principle-based nation throughout most of our nation’s history, until the last seventy years. Consequently, the people became citizens with purpose, character, and direction. Patriotism is the responsibility of every citizen. Since these institutions, in many cases, have not been properly maintained, they have become dysfunctional over time. Today, we often see dysfunction play out in many of our homes, schools, and churches, as our history has been revised by a hijacked, dysfunctional government-run education system, causing the erosion of our once principle-based foundation.

It’s reported that Joseph Stalin, Soviet dictator from 1928 to 1953, made this statement:

America is like a healthy body, and its resistance (immune system) is threefold: patriotism, morality, and spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within (and be dysfunctional just like us).

Only God, through each individual’s personal knowledge of our history, can activate the deactivated condition of our nation.
